Award-winning pupils get on their bikes
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and South Wales Fire and Rescue have joined forces to put the brakes on issues that endanger the safety of young cyclists.

The agencies work closely together in schools and in the community to ensure young people have the skills, training and confidence they need to stay safe.

The latest initiative from the partners was a competition that was held in every primary school across Rhondda Cynon Taf.

Years five and six pupils across the county borough have been undertaking their National Standards Level One Cycle Course.

Of those who participate, two pupils have been selected to go forward for a county-wide competition to win one of two Shockwave dual suspension and disc cycles.

The winners of the competition were announced at an event organised by the Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Road Safety Unit and South Wales Fire and Rescue at Halfords in Pontypridd earlier this month.

Halfords have kindly agreed to sponsor cycle helmets and bicycle serving for the two winners, who are:

  • Catherine Jones of YGG Llyn y Forwyn
  • Chloe Booth-Jones of Llantrisant Primary
The winners were announced at the event, which was also attended by pupils from YGG Pont Sion Norton, who were presented with special safety goodie bags sponsored by South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
