Prams and Mams
An exercise class which meets weekly in Aberdare is helping mums shift the post-pregnancy pounds. Prams and Mams is run by an award-winning instructor and organised by Rhondda Cynon Taf's Support To Access Recreation Scheme (STARS) team. The class involves a walk around the park, pushing baby in the pram, with regular stops to tighten and tone muscles. Stephanie Williams of Aberdare, mum to Bradley aged four and Kian, 13 months, has been going to the class for just over a year. In that time she has lost an incredible three stone, with a combination of push and tone exercises and a slimming class healthy eating plan. "I'd recommend the class to all mums. It gets you up and out of the house and it's great to exercise while the baby enjoys the fresh air," said Stephanie. "I've made a lot of new friends and we've all got lots of things in common with having babies of similar ages. If I had to pick the best thing about the class I'd say it's how toned you become from attending regularly." Stephanie is now expecting her third baby and is hoping to be back at class soon after her new arrival is born. Class instructor Suzi Hopkins has just won the Group Exercise Leader award at the International Fitness Showcase in Blackpool. "After having a baby, mothers can feel isolated and self esteem may drop. Prams and Mams is a great workout with no childcare worries and being outdoors with other mums is an excellent mood lifter!" said Suzi. Nicola Matthews, Rhondda Cynon Taf's STARS Co-ordinator, said: "We are proud of Suzi's achievements and would like to congratulate her on her success at the IFS awards. It is great for the ladies at Prams and Mams to have the benefit of her experience, expertise and also her example as a very active mum!"
The class takes place at Aberdare Park café from 10:30am. For further information, please call the STARS Team on 01685 874323
